You want change to happen.
You want to grow and innovate.
You want the creative energy to flow.
Change is really not that difficult if you remember that your people are the ones that will need to implement any change. Dialogue with them!
It’s important to have a change management team, and a well developed vision. But it’s not enough. Visions and plans without implementation are nothing. It’s’ in the action that change happens.
Here are the four i’s of change:
1. Invite
You need to invite people from all levels of the organization to be part of the change at every stage of the project. From visioning, to design, to implementation. Keep the dialogue going.
2. Involve.
This week someone was complaining to me that after a merger their company had come up with many good ideas. But nobody at the action level really knew what was expected or why. Daily operations were hindered by poor communication and bad design, because nobody had bothered to involve those who have to implement the changes in the change process. What a waste!
Involve your people in the change process from beginning to end!
3. Inquire
Energize people by making them part of the creative process. In that way, instead of complaining and sabotaging, people will be engaged and energized.
- Ask for their opinions
- Ask for innovative ideas
- Ask for the best processes
- Ask for their take on problems
- Ask for their specific knowledge
Inquiry wakes up minds and energizes people.
4. Implement
Engage people in implementing change in small steps that can result in immediate success. Success generates energy and enthusiasm. It also creates positive expectations and a sense of accomplishment.
Remember. . .
By making change a collaborative process there will be less mistakes, more engagement, and effective sustainable change.
Use your energy to invite, involve, inquire, and implement!
