Contrast surrounds us. Because of my passion for photography, I ponder the world of contrast often. I enjoy looking for contrast. In photography, contrast is what makes a picture come alive.
Life is full of contrasts: There is light and darkness, rich and poor, active and passive, happy and sad, relaxed and anxious, death and life, hot and cold, good and evil, love and indifference, guilty and forgiven. This list could go on and on, but I think you probably get the point.
Leadership also has contrasts: There is vision and strategy, persuading and requiring, big picture and details, reflection and communication, talking and listening, full throttle and braking, no-change and change, clarity and confusion, rigidity and flexibility, collaboration and competition, encouragement and criticism. You name it! As a leader, you experience contrasts every day.
Remember. . .
Contrast is what makes leadership come alive, what challenges you, what propels you to keep alert and growing.
