Do you listen to compassion warnings?

April 30, 2011 - 16:35 -- Dr. Ada
Compassion-

In my entry about how to conquer negativity I shared that one of the best antidotes to negativity is Compassion. This week I have been working in Georgia. I have heard many conversations about tornado warnings, the importance of listening to warnings, and stories of what happens when people don't listen. I wonder if we are as concerned about listening to compassion warnings.

I have felt my compassion growing as I hear more stories about the damages brought by the series of storms in the South of the country. Probably because the path of destruction left by last week tornados is not too far from where I have been working, I have followed the news more closely. Continue reading »

3 Obstacles to change you can't afford to ignore

April 24, 2011 - 21:07 -- Dr. Ada

Some motivational quote about obstacles and overcoming them HERE

As I work with different leaders and organizations a common complaint I hear is how much people resist change. Do you experience the same? If you are trying to change something in your organization, and are having a hard time, this post is especially for you.

If you think about it, all resistance is composed of ambivalence. Once you are totally committed, there is no resistance. The most common reasons for feelings of ambivalence are: Continue reading »

Pay attention to your thoughts before opening your mouth

April 18, 2011 - 11:01 -- Dr. Ada

No Silence

We have the ability to communicate our thoughts in real time. We don’t need to plan what we’re going to say beforehand. This is great when we are brainstorming, or when there is an emergency and we need to issue a warning. It can be a problem when what we say is something we later wish we had either not said, or said differently. Continue reading »

Thursday we spent the day on the beach at Costa Maya, Mexico. Besides experiencing the crystal clear warm waters, it was refreshing to receive hospitality at it’s best. They were a living lesson about customer service.

A short taxi drive took us from the dock to the beach. The moment we got to the beach, Manuel, a very warm and kind host welcomed us, and took us to a great spot under a palapa (circular open structure with a roof made of dry palm leaves). Beside the table and chairs under the palapa, he also brought us a couple of lounge chairs to lie on and soak up the sun. Continue reading »

Lessons from Belize

April 1, 2011 - 11:35 -- Dr. Ada

I’m on a Cruise in the Caribbean. Today our port was Belize City. This port has shallow waters close to land, therefore, the cruise ship anchors way out at sea. Small motor boats come to take the passengers ashore.

On our way back to the ship an interesting incident happened. We were almost alongside our ship. Several passengers had gotten up to take pictures. The captain of the boat was idling the engine instead of finishing his approach to the ship. After awhile it became clear to me that for security reasons, he was waiting for people to sit down, and he would not make the final approach until nobody was standing. Continue reading »
