Share your wisdom

Serious Steps

Inspired by the idea that one of the greatest gifts one generation can give to another is the wisdom it has gained from experience, multi-award-winning photographer and filmmaker Andrew Zuckerman produced a brilliant book-and-film, Wisdom: The Greatest Gift One Generation Can Give to Another. He captured the heritage of a generation’s wisdom gained from life’s experience.

Zuckerman went wisdom-hunting among 50 of our present world’s greatest thinkers and doers — writers, artists, philosophers, politicians, designers, activists, musicians, religious and business leaders — all over 65 years of age. He asked them 7 questions, recording his subjects’ candid responses in a way that highlights intelligence, inspiration and invaluable insight.

Here is the trailer to the movie:

The next generation of leaders needs to learn from your experience. The greatest service you can do for your organization is to share your wisdom with those around you.

You don’t have to write a book or make a movie. All you need to do is to share:

  • your stories of both success and failure
  • your best learned lessons
  • your deepest guiding values
  • your philosophy
  • your knowledge of the company history
  • your leadership development path
  • the wisdom you learned from those before you

Only you can do this. Only you can decide to befriend those coming behind you. Only you can choose to share instead of hoard your knowledge. Only you can follow your heart’s generous path to gift the next generation with your wisdom.

I hope you will feel inspire to share your wisdom, starting with us, today.
