How to beat creative block every time

I recently wrote this article as a guest post on Jim Connolly's Creative Thinking Hub

We all occasionally reach a point, where we have trouble trying to create and innovate. So, I’m going to share some ideas with you today, to help you overcome these creative blocks and reignite your creative genius.

When we are stuck for creative inspiration, we use lots of phrases to describe the situation. For example:

  • I have writer’s block
  • My mind is blank
  • I’m thinking hard but nothing is coming up
  • I don’t have a clue
  • I don’t know what to say

Creative block: It happens to everyone

It’s like we expect our creative brain to be sparking at 100% of the time – that we should always have something brilliant to say, or do, or share. The reality is very different. Even the world’s most celebrated creative geniuses have periods where they struggle to create.

Here are some suggestions to get your creativity flowing, the next time you are looking for inspiration:

  • Go take a trip outside your personal bubble and do something different.
  • Read a book (One you would not normally pick up).
  • Go have an adventure.
  • Meet new people.
  • Take a walk.
  • Listen to a different kind of music or a different radio station.
  • Relax and play.
  • Have a siesta.

Replenish your creativity

We need to replenish our spirit, our brain and our heart. Trying to create when we are uninspired, is like making love for the sake of making love. It’s not really connecting. It does not bring as much pleasure. It’s delusional. It does not work as well as it should.

In short: If you don’t have that creative spark right now, don’t panic! Use it as an excuse to do something different and replenishing, until the spark comes back better and brighter than ever.

I can help you re-ignite your creativity and achieve the growth you deserve. Working with me you will find your best path for development and change. To find out more, simply click here.
