Many leaders go through life focusing on avoiding mistakes. Which is not entirely wrong. Preventing major errors can feel good. It can also feel safe. But today I want to challenge you to be bold and reach for excellence instead.
If your success is measured only in the form of preventing major errors, and you are now operating in a competent way, you’ll feel you have accomplished your mission. There is no need for more.
If the focus of your organization is on reducing errors, you can become action adverse, and miss on innovation. Besides, focusing on error reduction can sap the lifeblood out of initiative and risk taking.
Taking action might result in errors. Yet, action is what is needed.
Dare to be bold!
Look for excellence instead of for error reduction!
Look for excellence instead of for error reduction!
Yes, part of achieving excellence includes an understanding of errors, what caused them, and what needs to be done to eliminate them.
Yet, as important as reducing mistakes can be, achieving excellence is much more inspiring.
You need to help people connect their day to day activities to the overall mission and vision of the company. You want them to be able to feel proud of the results. You want them to be motivated by the challenge that striving for excellence can bring.
A bold focus on excellence:- Keeps your attention on what's right and what's working well, rather than what's not working.
- Looks at the positives and how things could be even better.
- Keeps you fresh and growing. Excellence today can be different tomorrow.
- Takes away limits, because you can always reach for greater levels of excellence.
Remember. . .
Strive for excellence! Identify the results you seek and create ways to bring about those results. Take small strides towards what you want to achieve. Don't forget to celebrate your success along the way. Enjoy the journey to excellence. The results will be more than you ever expected were possible.
