Leader as trailblazer

going west

I like to read about the history of the conquest of the West of the United States. It’s easy to get caught up on the romance of those first families breaking trail to Oregon, or to California. But the fact is that opening trail isn’t the most comfortable place to be. Yes, you have the thrill to be “the first.” But also the worries, and unexpected, and the dangerous. Those pioneers were brave!

Leading is about trailblazing. Leading is about going in front setting the pace and showing by example how to walk the trail. It’s doing something first, so that others can do it more easily after you.

The world continues to need strong and at the same time sensitive leaders who are trailblazers, willing to pay the price. Leaders who are:

  • Visionaries
  • Passionate
  • Energetic
  • Persistent
  • Attentive to the needs of others
  • Problem Solvers
  • Pacesetter
  • Creative
  • Innovative

Most of the comforts which people enjoy in their lives today were once made possible by someone who was willing to take risks and to move out of their comfort zone, to be a trailblazer.

Be the first to try new things. Don’t be afraid that the idea or technology is not proven. Empower your employees and assign them different things to try. Experiment with new technologies. But remember, you’ll get out of it what you are willing to put into it. You need to stay committed to break trail and lead by example.

I can help you or the leaders that report to you be more confident and capable as trailblazers. To find out more, simply click here.
