I like to read about the history of the conquest of the West of the United States. It’s easy to get caught up on the romance of those first families breaking trail to Oregon, or to California. But the fact is that opening trail isn’t the most comfortable place to be. Yes, you have the thrill to be “the first.” But also the worries, and unexpected, and the dangerous.
