The amazing power of two simple words

Every contact a leader has with others is loaded with possibilities. Each one can build or break a relationship. Leaders tend to underestimate how even a brief interaction can change how people think about themselves, their leader, and their organization.

There are two simple words that are so powerful it amazes me they are not used more often. Continue reading »

The gift of Not-Knowing

June 27, 2011 - 20:21 -- Dr. Ada

Under the Yellow Umbrella:-)

Today we are proud to live in the “information age.” Knowledge is enriching, powerful, and can even be inspiring. Scientists want to break every code and genome. Leaders like to think they know a great deal. We like to know because knowledge seems to give us control. Control over ourselves, our organizations, and even our future.

But what if the accumulation of knowledge is not the best answer for innovation and change. What if genuine conversations don’t happen if you think you know everything? What if to move toward greater wisdom does not mean to accumulate more knowledge? What if not-knowing is a gift? The biggest barrier to innovation

June 22, 2011 - 16:18 -- Dr. Ada

Trapped

Peter Drucker once said: “Every organization has to prepare for the abandonment of everything it does.” Today, more than ever, the challenge of change is not only how fast to change, but how to look for innovative ways of doing things. It is not only how to get better. It’s how to get different.

Given the need for innovation, every business should find ways not only to facilitate, but to stimulate innovation. When I talk to leaders in organizations, most seem to recognize this need. Yet, many are puzzled by why they are not more successful with innovation. There is one huge barrier that, if taken down, could make the biggest difference for successful innovation. Do you know what it is? Continue reading »

Turning individual action into collective power.

Due to the present business environment, I hear a lot about collaboration. Although full of possibilities, collaboration can be a big challenge for leaders. It’s easy to forget that, as great as collaboration is, it is a means to an end, not an end in itself.

The best leaders can adjust to the needs of an organization while keeping the end result in sight. They find a way to see, value, and inspire their people. As a result, a united group of people communicates and works together effectively to achieve a common purpose. This is collective power in action! Continue reading »

Does your leadership heart needs an upgrade?

June 16, 2011 - 22:45 -- Dr. Ada

The Entertainer's World

A few days ago Apple introduced to the world iCloud, along with other software upgrades. I imagine that most of us Mac fans will want to upgrade our software and take advantage of the new capabilities as soon as it is available in the fall.

I wish we were as diligent in upgrading the software of our hearts! You probably find it relatively easy to give voice to your “logical,” linear, critical patterns of thinking. Will you allow your heart, your intuition, your spirit, to also have a voice? Continue reading »

What does freedom of speech have to do with the bottom line of your business?

June 5, 2011 - 23:26 -- Dr. Ada

366 - 350: You can't shut me up

Free enterprise requires the free flow of communication. In order to be able to make choices without government control, we need to be able to talk to each other effectively. That’s how new ideas develop. That’s how new projects get done. That’s how quality is improved. That’s how you can know what your costumers want. That’s how workers can take pride in their work.
